IAPES IN PENNSYLVANIA - Did you know?


The first state convention was held in Harrisburg in May 1940.

The PA Chapter was chartered in January 1942.

Pennsylvania hosted three (3) International Conventions:

  • 1929 - Philadelphia
  • 1958 - Philadelphia
  • 1966 - Pittsburgh

Two International Presidents were from Pennsylvania:

  • 1950 - 1951 - George Rothman
  • 1972 - 1973 - James Hendricks

Pennsylvania has had two Citation Award winners:

  • 1965 - Elmer J. Holland
  • 1967 - the Rev. Dr. Leon H. Sullivan

Pennsylvania had two Essay Contest Winners:

  • 1943 - D.G.R. Henderson, Harrisburg (First winner)
  • 1964 - Joseph A. DeFeo, Upper Darby

The Philadelphia Service and Domestic Office won the Group Award of Merit in 1957; while Pennsylvania won the Chapter Achievement Award (PA tied for Chapter Achievement Award in 1969).

Pennsylvania received an award for the "Most Improved Chapter" in 1989 and again in 2000.
