2008 IAWP Spring Conference

The 2008 IAWP Spring Conference is scheduled for Thursday, May 15th and Friday, May 16th, 2008, at the Days Inn Penn State.  Beginning at 1:00 pm on Thursday, the educational program will cover a well-balanced mix of both work-related and personal well-being topics.  Work related topics include updates of Department workforce program initiatives, particularly the UC Modernization System (UCMS) and Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS).  The State Civil Service Commission will offer another segment on issues that can affect one’s career path as a PA State employee.  The latter topics include stress management and nutritional health at work.  There are plenty of things to do, while you’re not at the conference.  The hotel is in State College, which is the home of The Pennsylvania State University.  We recommend stopping by the Penn State Creamery for some ice cream, maybe a Peachy Paterno?  If you enjoy nature, stop by the Arboretum at Penn State.  If you’re looking to shop, the Nittany Mall is nearby, along with all of the great shops along College and Beaver Avenues in downtown State College.

The Registration Fee is $45.00 for members and $ 65.00 for non-members, which covers all breaks, materials, Friday’s continental breakfast and the closing Awards Luncheon.   A Registration Form is available in Microsoft Word format and Adobe pdf format.

The Days Inn Penn State is a top-flight facility with well-kept guest rooms, solid meeting room accommodations and various amenities all of which will offer our attendees an all-round pleasant experience.    Reservations for guest rooms the night of Thursday May 15th can be made at a State Government rate of $77.00 plus taxes –for single/double/triple occupancy.  The Days Inn Penn State reservation number is (814) 238-8454 or Toll Free 1-800-258-3297.  The deadline for Room Reservations is April 15.  And, you must provide our Group Code:  CGIAWP.  Finally, please note that Educational Leave is available for any Department employee planning to attend the Spring 2008 Conference.  Requests for educational leave must be submitted through normal supervisory channels and requires completion of an Out Service Training request.  OST requests must be received for review and approval well in advance of the scheduled leave dates.
